Sutton United working in partnership with Smarter Travel Sutton to promote sustainable transport

What is Smarter Travel Sutton ?

Smarter Travel Sutton is a £5million, 3 year sustainable travel project, delivered in partnership between Transport for London and the London Borough of Sutton. The project aims to change the way people in the borough travel, shifting journeys away from the car to public transport, walking and cycling.

How we work together with the Smarter Travel Sutton

Sutton United and Supporters Trust encourage supporters to leave the car at home and find sustainable ways to travel to matches. Why not walk and take in some fresh non polluted air or cycle and use our newly installed bicycle shelters. Pickup one of our integrated map and fixture cards for details of just how easy it is to get to the ground, whether walking cycling or by public transport.

Some of the key achievements of the project to date:

75% increase in cycling 16% increase in bus patronage First London Borough to have 100% of schools covered by a travel plan Over 16,000 employees covered by a workforce travel plan 29% of residents aware of campaign 6% mode shift away from car 81% residents supported the programme 3.2% reduction in traffic levels.

Integrated map and fixture cards
Gareth Miller of the Sutton United Supporters’ Trust said

“The integrated map and fixture card is a great way of encouraging supporters to travel to matches sustainably.“It really shows how easy it is to walk and cycle to the club, as well as the numerous bus routes close to the ground. The club is proud to be promoting sustainable travel and hope to see an increase in the number of fans walking and cycling during the new season.”

Sutton’s Car Club continues to go from strength to strength.

The club, run by Streetcar, offers 24 hour access to pay-as-you-go cars from as little as £4.95 an hour. Car clubs provide cars at convenient on-street locations, taking care of insurance , tax, maintenance and MOTs for their members which helps car owners typically save over £2,000 when they join.
