YOUTHS SECURE THREE MORE POINTS

Sutton picked up all three points tonight against Tooting & Mitcham United at Gander Green Lane thanks to goals from Josh Danquah, Rommell Hunte-Christie and Tobi Adaje.

The first half hour was littered with free-kicks and misplaced passes as neither side managed to get a grip on the game, but Sutton slowly found their footing and Jean-Luc Kinsaba was unlucky to see his close-range effort from Lamar Fowlkes’ cross from the left bundled clear. Hunte-Christie then saw his strike from a narrow angle parried away whilst neither Tom Mallett nor Jamie Blanco could find the target with headers from Darnell Austin set-pieces. The best move of the half saw Kinsaba work the ball from right to left and left to Danquah firing straight at the keeper, but on the stroke of half-time Aaron Afriyie and Kieran Rhule combined to put Danquah in on goal and he made no mistake firing home. There was still time for Sutton to threaten again but somehow Austin’s effort from close range was blocked as Hunte-Christie’s effort was deflected into his path.

Seyi Aka-Bashorun had the first chance of the second period but saw his strike from the edgoe of the box saved, whilst Andrius Lucauskas was next to see a goalbound effort blocked by a lunging defender. Hunte-Christie then nipped onto a loose back-pass and rounded the keeper before pulling the ball back to Austin but he somehow shot wide with the goal at his mercy, but on 67 minutes Hunte-Christie powered his way through two challenges inside the Tooting area before firing into the bottom corner. 5 minutes later Sutton put the points beyond doubt as Rhule was felled inside the area allowing Adaje to step up from 12 yards and fire home. At the other end, Tom Day recovered well to push Hady Ghandour’s effort wide for a corner, but he had no chance when Ibrahim Bangura arrowed a shot into the top corner from all of 35 yards out to pull a goal back for the visitors.
