YOUTHS SMASH ELEVEN PAST SOUTH PARK

Sutton’s bid to win the Surrey Under-18s Midweek Floodlit Cup for a record fifth consecutive season commenced without a hitch tonight as they thrashed South Park’s Southern Youth League side.

From the off it was one-way traffic as Rommel Hunte-Christie twice went close in the opening stages but it didn’t take long before Sutton opened the scoring when Jean-Luc Kinsaba’s low cross from the left found Archie Harland-Goddard unmarked at the back post and he slotted past he keeper. Kinsaba then burst through three challenges but as denied by a smart save before Hunte-Christie volleyed Josh Danquah’s cross over the bar, but in the 21st minute Kieran Rhule chipped the ball through to Danquah and he made no mistake slotting past the keeper. Rhule then switched play quickly from left to right allowing Danquah space to cross the ball to Hunte-Christie and he fired home, before Kinsaba reacted first to a loose pass on the halfway line and powered his way past the home defence and slotted past the keeper. With half-time approaching Danquah jinked his way past the full-back and cut the ball back to Lamar Fowlkes and he smashed the ball into the roof of the net.

Sutton could have been forgiven for taking their foot off the pedal after half-time but there was to be no respite for the home defence as Kinsaba cut in from the left and found Darnell Austin who touched past his marker and drove powerfully into the bottom corner. Seyi Aka-Bashorun was unlucky on two occasions not to add his name onto the scoresheet but was twice denied by the keeper, but his corner led to the 7th as Tom Mallett headed powerfully home at the back post on 65 minutes. A quick Fowlkes throw on the left led to the 8th, teeing up Stefan Ilic who ghosted through the home defence and fired inside the near post, then Mallett’s determination saw him set Aaron Afriyie up soon after as the unmarked midfielder fired past the keeper. Ilic claimed his second of the game as he exchanged passes with Ayran Kugathas on the edge of the area before beating the keeper, and Mallett rounded off the scoring with another header from a corner that gave the keeper no chance.
