Tuesday 20 March - Suburban League Shield
LEATHERHEAD 1 SUTTON UTD 2
Matt Reece scored twice for the second consecutive game as U's kept alive their hopes of qualifying for the knock out stages of the Challenge Shield. Leatherhead had the better of the early stages, with a good defensive block from U's and one low save from Marcos Pereira frustrating them, and Sutton's only attack of note came when Chris Beard's shot was deflected wide by a defender after a Rob Hughes free kick. Slightly against the run of play, though, Reece beat the offside trap to run on and shoot past the keeper to give U's the lead. Pereira was called in to another good save, but Anson Cousins came very close to a second goal for U's on the stroke of half time when he hit the post after being set up by Reece. Leatherhead equalised early in the second half with a low shot from 25 yards, and Lewis Taylor had to make one fine tackle to prevent the home side taking the lead, but then Reece dispossessed the goalkeeper and crossed for Cousins, and although his shot was blocked it ran back to Reece who scored from a tight angle. Leatherhead finished strongly, but twice had goals disallowed for offside, and two other opportunities went wide as Sutton held on for the victory.
