Sutton United 1 Woking 1 (H/T 1-1)

ALL SQUARE IN TOP OF THE TABLE CLASH

A late Arran Nurse equaliser salvaged a deserved point for Sutton tonight, but the home side were left ruing missed chances in a second half that they thoroughly dominated.

Both sides saw plenty of early possession but it was Woking who carved out the first chances, Phil Moode firing a free header well over the bar and then Ryan Alderman blasting over from outside the box after being teed up by Adam Bellmaine. At the other end Harry Turkson and David Lodge put in telling crosses but Liam Allen in the visitors goal did well to parry them away. Dan Wanyoni then fired a first time volley against a defender before Brandon Johnson’s free kick from the left was flicked towards goal by Nurse but straight at Allen. A cross-field ball then caught out the Sutton back four and allowed Dean Brazil the chance to rush forward and lob the ball over the advancing Antonio Dulgheru to give Woking the lead. Sutton tried in vain to snatch an equaliser before the break, Nurse driving forward from halfway and playing a one-two with Harry Turkson before firing wide, and then it was Nurse who set Wanyoni through who slid the ball to Turkson but he could only slice his shot wide of the post.

Just a couple of minutes into a second half that Sutton dominated, the ball fell kindly to Johnson 25 yards out whose stinging effort was awkwardly tipped over the bar by Allen. A Johnson free-kick then evaded everyone in the six yard box and looked to be sneaking inside the near post but the visiting keeper did well to tip the ball wide. Turkson then unexpectedly found himself with the ball at his feet inside the Woking area after a defensive slip, but Allen blocked his first time shot. With twenty minutes to go, Emil Salama came on for Turkson and immediately got himself involved with some intricate passing involving Nurse and Johnson, Salama eventually flicking the ball through to Wanyoni who just failed to connect. With six minutes to go though, the equaliser eventually arrived when Salama’s delicate touch through found Wanyoni, who superbly flicked the ball on to Nurse allowing him to rifle the ball past the advancing Allen. In the closing stages, Sam Stone brought down Nurse on the halfway line sparking a melee that ended with both players seeing red, as well as Sutton substitute Cyrille Sahie.
