These are such exciting times for everyone involved at Sutton United FC; on and off the pitch the club is now exercised with ensuring that we continue to progress and build on the wonderful momentum which was achieved initially by promotion to the National League, was followed by the heightened profile, worldwide, gained by last season’s never-to-be-forgotten FA Cup run, and which has now been sustained with a concerted challenge for promotion at the top of the National League table.
As we all strive hard to further develop the club, we are now delighted to welcome and receive additional expertise in the shape of sports investment and rights management company MBUZZSPORT as the newest member of the Sutton United family. Experienced with working with football clubs right across Europe, Dubai-based MBUZZSPORT has previously secured shirt sponsorship deals with Sheffield United and Wigan Athletic, and have demonstrated their commitment to the U’s by taking a minority shareholding in the club. As part of the arrangement, we are really delighted that Martin Copus joins the Sutton United Board of Directors. Born within a mile of the Knights Community Stadium, he has spent much of his career working with football clubs and sporting bodies worldwide and will bring valuable sports industry experience to help us continue to progress.
Chairman of the Board of Directors Dave Farebrother commented: ”The club has changed exponentially in so many ways over the past few years, and whilst we will always do things " the Sutton way" we welcome extra help and support from new partners. In taking a small stake in the club MBUZZSPORT has confirmed its commitment and we hope to use their experience and knowledge to build on the international exposure we achieved with our FA Cup run last year, widening both our corporate and fan appeal. I’m also pleased to welcome Martin to the board – he will bring a new and varied set of skills and experience, and I’m sure will make a valuable contribution to his hometown club as we strive to take the U’s forward.”
Martin Copus said:"As Dave mentions, much of my career has been spent living and working internationally – in the US, Asia, Europe and the Middle East – but I was born in Sutton, grew up in Altrincham, and home is near Wycombe, so community football (some would say real football!) is in my blood. I often say my weekdays meet my weekends, since both are spent 100% with sport, and my goal is to bring some of that sports industry experience to the U’s, and help continue the incredible recent run of success."
