We are delighted to confirm the signing of Alex Kirk on a permanent deal, following his release from Arsenal.

The young defender is the latest addition to the U’s backline, and will offer power and assurance at the heart of Steve Morison’s defence.

An Arsenal academy product, Kirk joined Hale End at the age of eight and rose through the ranks, featuring frequently for the youth side. He was a part of the Gunners’ first team squad that travelled to Dubai in January 2022 for a mid-season training camp and was named on the bench for a Premier League match against West Ham United four months later, before beginning to play regular first team football whilst on loan in the Scottish Championship, where he made 24 appearances for Ayr United.

After returning to North London, the 21-year old would find himself out on loan once again, spending the 2023/24 campaign at Bromley. He would contribute to the Ravens’ first ever promotion to League Two, appearing 22 times in all competitions, including a 24-minute cameo in the play-off semi-final against Altrincham, before playing 60 minutes in the final.

On the capture of Kirk, Head Coach Steve Morison said

“We’re delighted to bring Alex Kirk on board. He’s a player who has shown real maturity and potential at such a young age, with valuable experiences at Arsenal, Ayr United, and helping Bromley to promotion last season. His physicality, character, and versatility fit perfectly into our squad and align with the club’s vision. We’re focused on developing young, talented players who can grow with us, and Alex’s profile matches our long-term transfer strategy. We’re excited to see him develop and contribute to the team’s success.”

Alex will wear the number 35 during his stint at the VBS Community Stadium.

Welcome to Sutton United, Alex!
