Three weeks after coming from 2-1 down against Bromley in the last five minutes to grab a thrilling 3-2 win at Gander Green Lane, Sutton make the return trip to Hayes Lane on Tuesday for a game that now matches the top two sides in the form table over the past six games. Since that defeat Bromley have taken ten points from a possible twelve, and Saturday’s single goal win against Solihull lifted them in to the last play-off place, thirteen points behind U’s having played a game more. They also boast the league’s top scorer in Michael Cheek, who has seventeen goals to his name including one in the game at Sutton in March – he also scored the only goal of the FA Cup tie in October.
That win also extended Bromley’s unbeaten run at Hayes Lane to seven games, while Saturday’s draw against Stockport, which was minutes away from a victory, meant that Sutton are now ten league games without defeat, with 26 points taken from those games and the lead at the top of the table four points.
Sutton will hope that one sequence is not continued – in each season since U’s joined Bromley in the National League the points have been shared with one victory each. Last season Bromley won 2-0 at Sutton, only for Omar Bugiel’s goal against his former club to prove decisive at Hayes Lane in February.
