We have experienced a fabulous run in the Papa Johns Trophy although it was a bitter pill to swallow to have the win we deserved snatched from us. To Matt, Jason and the rest of the management team and to every player -well done and thank you for giving everybody connected to the club a day at Wembley that will never be forgotten.
Of course, an event like that does not organise itself and an army of volunteers took on this task but I have to give special mentions to Adrian, Tim, Dominic and Tony Dolbear for dealing with all the ticketing, hospitality and press demands, and for liaising with Wembley to ensure that all the arrangements went smoothly on the day. It would also be remiss of me not to mention David Mathers for his meticulous arrangements for hotel and travel for players, management, directors and committee members, and Gareth Miller for his superhuman efforts with the merchandise ordering and sales.
What can you say about the magnificent support at Wembley? Nearly 15,000 in the Amber Army- unbelievable! I so enjoyed looking at and listening to you all, it must have been great to have been a part of it and I know that Matt and the players have never experienced anything like it before at a Sutton match. And if you thought that was good, then the reception back at the club in the evening was also special, so many fans wanting to welcome back the management and players to Gander Green Lane and to show their appreciation and support. When Jackie and I left just after 1am, it was still going strong with more dubious singing (whilst standing on a chair!) by AB- in fact he could still be there now!!
A very, very, special day for a very, very special Football Club.
Thank you all again for being part of it.
The journey continues………….
Bruce Elliott, Chairman, Sutton United Football Club.
