After announcing the return of Dan Wishart earlier this week, manager Paul Doswell has confirmed that another fans’ favourite is returning to the club with the signing of centre back Charlie Clough.  The 27-year-old first joined U’s from Dorchester in September 2013 and went on to make 74 appearances, scoring nine goals, and captained the club before joining Forest Green in January 2015, playing in the 2016 play-off final at Wembley against Grimsby. He moved to Barnet midway through the 2016-17 season and was allowed to leave by the North London club following their relegation in May.

Paul said: ”This is another signing we’ve been working on since the end of the season but we’ve had to be patient. We were always Charlie’s first choice of club, and I’m delighted to welcome him back. He was superb for us in his previous spell and I look forward to working with him again.

Charlie commented: ”I can’t wait to get back to the club and meet the friends I made there during my first spell. I think I’m coming back as a better player than I was three years ago, and I’m looking forward to trying to help us in to the Football League.”
