Why Sutton United?

The club sits at the heart of the community and regularly engages with our supporters, helping you to build solid, long-term relationships with our avid followers. Sutton United are based in South London and are a club with a rich history and heritage. The club was formed on 5th March 1898 when Sutton Guild Rovers FC and Sutton St Barnabas FC agreed to merge during a meeting at the Robin Hood Hotel.

Since that day the club has gone on to achieve underdog status, from beating First Division side Coventry City in 1989, to the FA Cup run of 2017 when they reached the 5th Round, beating AFC Wimbledon and Leeds United before facing Arsenal at Gander Green Lane. In 2021 SUFC won the National League and were rewarded with automatic promotion to the EFL for the first time in its long history. In the Club’s first ever campaign in the EFL Trophy, they beat Wigan Athletic to secure a Wembley final against Rotherham United. The result didn’t go SUFC’s way, however, it is another example of the Club’s recent successful period.

With Crystal Palace FC eight miles away, Fulham FC 11 miles away and Chelsea FC 12 miles away, SUFC have a captive audience that spreads across both South and West London, as well as the county of Surrey.

Brunson has helped design this season’s Home strip, “Our new kit design is a proud homage to our club’s rich history, derived from the Arms of the Municipal Borough of Sutton and Cheam, symbolising 126 years of heritage. Central to the crest is the Poppinjay, an underrated yet brilliantly vibrant bird, embodying the essence of our club’s spirit.”

Alongside helping develop the new kit, Paul has created the “Amber Army 100”. This initiative aims to promote the club to children from underprivileged areas/families and allow them to attend a Sutton United home game for free. These children will also be supplied with Sutton United merchandise free of charge.
