Sutton United will head to Braintree Town in the National League Cup Semi-Final.
The U’s secured their place in the last four with a comprehensive 3-0 victory over Manchester United’s academy, having previously finished second in Group D.
Steve Morison’s side had picked up wins over Tottenham Hotspur and Nottingham Forest, either side of a defeat to West Ham United and a draw with West Bromwich Albion, with the latter result preceding an extra point sustained with a successful penalty shootout.
Sutton will now head to the Rare Breed Meat Co. Stadium for the second time this season, having picked up four points from the fellow National League side, with Will Davies’ second half strike securing victory in Essex back in October, while Josh Coley’s opener was cancelled out by a John Akinde strike at the VBS Community Stadium last month.
Braintree meanwhile topped Group D, winning all four of their Group Stage games before overcoming Brighton & Hove Albion’s academy in the last round, with goals from Jermaine Francis and Kyreece Lisbie cancelling out Sahil Bashir’s second half equaliser to maintain the Iron’s 100% record in the National League Cup and send them through to the last four.
The clash will take place on Tuesday, 1st April, kicking off at 7:45pm, with ticket information to follow.
