Having come through the qualifying competition in November with victories over Welling United Deaf, Ruislip Manor and MK Dons, U’s kicked off the round robin final competition at Meadowbank with a 1-0 win against Sussex County, who have traditionally been the strongest side in the region and dominated the competition. Shaun Mills scored the only goal of that game, and was on the scoresheet again with two more as U’s repeated the qualifying success over MK Dons, Adam Preedy also scoring in a 3-0 win. Single goal wins against Slough ((Ben Wilson) and Chelsea(Jack Brooker) saw James O’Carroll’s side finish on top with a remarkable record in the competition of seven wins without conceding a goal, and the honours were completed by Shaun Mills and Jamie Dearling, who were jointly awarded Player of the Tournament.

Steve King, the head of the disability section at Sutton United, said ”With nine FAs in the South East taking part it’s an amazing achievement and shows how far the Sutton United Disability team has come, with the great support of the Sutton United Foundation.”
