Manager Paul Doswell says that the departure of Louis John to Cambridge United is another indication of the Sutton United’s ability to produce players who can go on and play in the Football League. Louis signed a two year contract at the Abbey Stadium yesterday having made 117 appearances for Sutton, including 33 starts in the Vanarama National League during the 2017-18 season. His time at the Knights Community Stadium also saw him capped twice at England C level, his international debut coming at Sutton two years ago when he scored twice against Slovakia.

" On a personal note I’m really pleased for Louis. He has come on leaps and bounds particularly this season and it’s another feather in the club’s cap to add to the list of players that have moved in recent times to professional league football.  He has worked so hard to achieve this move and hopefully he can progress even further. As one of Sutton’s own he was clearly liked by our supporters and I know he always appreciated the support he was given. As a football club we are proud of helping in his development over a number of years and this remains a core strategy. It’s getting harder and harder to compete financially in the National League with Salford and Chesterfield now joining a whole host of clubs with massive budgets. This is why the development of players such as Tommy Wright and Josh Taylor is crucial, as we have always tried to give younger players a clear pathway to the first team. As ever you still have to be good enough as Louis has proved this season.

We have put the finishing touches to our pre-season schedule and will announce them in conjunction with our league opponents, with Saturday 21 July a must for the diary!

As alluded to earlier we have to be patient in securing our targets, and ensuring any new players buy into this football club and its values. We are working hard on three targets and hopefully will have them available to join us on Thursday 28 June when pre-season training commences.”
