John had maintained a close connection with the club since commentating on our famous FA Cup win against Coventry in January 1989. He had attended several events to commemorate that game, and most recently was at the home game against Stevenage earlier this month where he met a number of the squad that played against Coventry (above). He was also a guest of the club at the Papa Johns Trophy Final at Wembley.
