We have just learned that our former player and manager, Keith Blunt, sadly passed away this morning after a long fight against cancer. Keith scored his first Sutton goal in the friendly against Arsenal in 1963 that was our first match under the new floodlights and was also a member of the Isthmian League title-winning squad in 1967. One of the many coaching graduates from Sid Cann’s reign at Sutton, Keith was arguably one of the club’s most successful "exports". Keith had a varied career after playing, including roles as head coach at Lilleshall, youth team coach at Spurs, assistant manager at Plymouth Argyle, and u-19 and u-23 coach of the Chinese national team. He was, of course, also the manager of Sutton who kicked off our revival by reaching the Anglo Italian Cup Final and was responsible for bringing Barrie Williams to the club. Keith left the U’s to manage Malmo, then a top European side, and later Viking before rejoining the U’s after Williams in turn left the club. We send our deepest sympathies to Keith’s wife Pauline, his family and friends. He was a man steeped in football who will be greatly missed.
