Leatherhead went in to the game boasting a 100% record in the Surrey Premier Division of the South East Counties League, and that Sutton were in for a tough afternoon soon became clear. It was a former Sutton player, Megan Button, who gave Leatherhead the lead just after the half hour mark, but within a couple of minutes Caitlin Savage equalised with a shot over the home goalkeeper after her first effort had been blocked.

In first half stoppage time Leatherhead regained the lead with a long range effort which flew over Marni Humphries in to the net, but Sutton came out strongly after the interval and within three minutes Khyri MacKenzie went through and forced her shot past the goalkeeper before following in to make sure. For a while it looked as though penalties might be required to settle the game, but Sutton were becoming dominant and grabbed the lead through a spot kick when Savage was brought down in the penalty area and Darcy Wells converted from twelve yards (below). The game remained in the balance until deep in to stoppage time when Emma Spear crossed for Natasha Hurst to score her second goal in as many games since joining the club.
