It may be two months later than it would usually be, and spectators may not be admitted, but the Vanarama National League season begins tomorrow as Sutton entertain Maidenhead United. It’s a fixture that looked as though it might not take place last season, with Maidenhead in 22nd place when the season was halted, but they moved above Ebbsfleet when the table was reorganised on points-per-game and with only three teams relegated they survived to take their place in the National League this season. They have a good record against U’s, winning all five meetings since their promotion in 2017, and have added Sam Barratt to their squad in the summer, the tall winger returning after two years with Southend.

Sutton manager Matt Gray has added defender Aaron Simpson to the squad ahead of Saturday’s game. With Dover last season, the 23-year-old played in the friendlies at St Albans and Hampton and, with Louis John and Ben Goodliffe both doubtful for Saturday he will provide defensive cover. Also signed as cover is 19-year-old goalkeeper Filip Chalupniczak, who has most recently been with Hanwell Town.

SUFCtv’s Ahmed Nur spoke to Matt earlier in the week about pre-season and looking forward to the weekend, and you can see the interview here.

While spectators aren’t admitted to the game it is available on live stream, free to season ticket holders and £9.50 to non season ticket holders, who can click here to buy a pass. Season ticket holders should have received a code to enable them to watch the game. If you haven’t, please email info@suttonunited.net. Unfortunately we will not now be showing the game in the MBA Lounge as we had previously hoped.
