Our game on Saturday was the second in a week to be called off at Mansfield because of frost, but with leaders Stockport’s game also postponed on Saturday, Wrexham beaten at Newport and Barrow suffering a first home defeat of the season against Crewe, Mansfield remain third, four points behind Stockport and now above Crewe on goal difference.
Mansfield were the last side in the EFL to lose their unbeaten record this season, finally losing at Swindon at the end of November, since when Crewe inflicted their only home defeat just over a fortnight ago, although that is still their only defeat in their last eight league games, a sequence that included a 2-0 win at the VBS just before Christmas. While The Stags have conceded fewer goals at home than any other side in the division, they have won only half of their twelve home games. They were hit last week with the news that striker Rhys Oates, a player that has often done well in games against Sutton in his career, will be out for the rest of the season with a knee injury, but they may have John-Joe O’Toole back in the squad on Tuesday after injury.
Sutton made three additions to the squad last week for the visit to a ground on which U’s have not lost, last season’s goalless draw following one of the best results of the previous season when Omar Bugiel, David Ajiboye and Richie Bennett scored in a 3-2 win. U’s will still be without striker Harry Smith as he continues to serve a suspension following his red card at Gillingham – he will next be available for the Doncaster game in a fortnight’s time. Other than that, and the long term injuries to Scott Kashket and Jon Barden, U’s should have a fully fit squad to choose from.
Tuesday’s referee is Ed Duckworth, in his first season as an EFL referee and taking charge of his second Sutton game this season having overseen the 4-0 win against Walsall in October.

If travelling by car leave the M1 at junction 28, then take the A38 towards Mansfield. After around six miles turn right into Belvedere Street (at crossroads), then after a quarter of a mile, turn right into Quarry Lane for One Call Stadium. Matchday car parking is not available, but there are nearby pay and display car parks at Grove Street, Victoria Street, Garden Road and Church Lane, all with easy access to the ground. Please note that parking is NOT permitted in the Portland Retail site. On the return journey be prepared for M1 closures around Leicester and again between MIlton Keynes and Luton, while the A1 is scheduled to be closed around Peterborough and again at Sandy. The M42 and M40 appear unaffected. Further details here, changing the date to 23 January.
