It wasn’t the result Sutton wanted in their league cup tie away to Leatherhead on Sunday.

The team travelled to Sheerwater for the tie as both teams look to progress to the Quarter Final of the League Cup.

The game started well for the U’s with Emma Spear hitting one off the far post which ultimately ricocheted into the back of the net to give Sutton the lead early on in the game.

Around 15 minutes after Spear’s opener for Sutton Leatherhead equalises to make it 1-1.

Ten minutes after their first Leatherhead put away a second which would see them go into the break a goal ahead.

The second half started well for the U’s with a handful of players having chances early on.

It remained 2-1 to Leatherhead for the majority of the game as Sutton looked to get an all important equaliser. But with 80 minutes gone Leatherhead extended their lead with a third goal and just 10 minutes later they finished the game with a fourth goal that would ultimately win them the game.

Sutton exit the League Cup at the third round stage and now look ahead to their away trip to Guernsey FC in the Combined Counties League Cup Third Round.

Manager Lucy Clark is “looking to bounce back in Guernsey”.
