Sutton United Under-18s cruised into the First Round Proper of the FA Youth Cup with a convincing 5-0 win over Stansfeld FC.

A brace for George Vorster as well as goals for Vinnie Tume, Bobby Sheargold, and Ned Hepburn saw the U’s to the win on a damp night in Bexleyheath.

Reflecting on a positive performance and result, PDP lead coach Rob Tuvey was pleased with his team’s efforts.

“We won our battles, we won our 50-50s, and we respected a team who we thought would go more direct against us,” Tuvey told Sutton United FCtv. “We’ve worked hard on that in the last couple of days, and we dealt with that really well, limiting them to hardly any chances.”

“[Stansfeld] had done really well in the last round, and I want to give them credit because they are a good side who have hosted us brilliantly tonight.”

The U’s made a strong start when James Fennelow’s cross was bundled home by Tume, opening the scoring inside the first five minutes of the match.

Joden Trickett and Junior Eccleston had two chances saved in quick succession by the reflexes of Stansfeld’s keeper, as the Amber pushed to make the most their strong start to the match.

Midway through the first half, Trickett created the second goal by losing his marker on the left wing before delivering a perfect cross into the path of Vorster, who couldn’t miss from six yards out.

Vorster then capped an excellent first 45 minutes with a piece of magic, shimmying his way past a number of Stansfeld players as he cut in from the right wing, before curling the ball with his left foot into the top right-hand corner.

Early in the second half, Tume and Trickett both had opportunities saved by Stansfeld’s keeper, who was in good form for the evening.

Eventually the pressure told, and Sutton scored their fourth goal of the night as Hepburn’s cross fell kindly for Sheargold, who calmly slid the ball into the net.

The final goal came 10 minutes later, when Bell’s clearance beat the Stansfeld defence, and Hepburn’s pace allowed him to race through on goal and beat the keeper at the second attempt, and round off a fine performance from the U’s.

“We’re buzzing to get through to the First Round,” said Vorster post-match. “We want to get as far as we can and me and the boys want a big team [in the next round] and we hope to see some fans there.”
