Sutton United Women 0-0 Sport London e Benfica
Sutton and Benfica came into this game with the same record in the league looking to push up the table.
Benfica are one of the newest teams in the league having been promoted last season and have started well in their new league and certainly showed they are up to the challenge with how they performed against an attacking Sutton side.
The opening 20 minutes looked as though it could go the way of the visitors as they had a few good chances in front of goal which they sent wide or over the crossbar. Sutton had some chances in the first half but nothing to write home about.
The two teams went into the half time break level at 0-0.
Sutton came out the blocks flying in the second half as the U’s looked to take control if this game and put it to bed after all. The Sutton attack peppered the Benfica goal for a lot of the second ’45 but with an inspired performance the Benfica keeper held or tipped the shots thrown at her wide and over the bar.
After the game Manager Lucy Clark said:
“0-0 couldn’t get the winner despite creating numerous chances. Benfica GK made numerous good saves. Clean sheet and a point the positives”.
Sutton’s next game is away to Millwall in the league on the 6th October.
