Match Report: Millwall 2 – 2 Sutton United Women

Posted: 10th October 2024

The U’s traveled to St Paul’s sports Ground in Rotherhithe for match day seven as they faced Millwall Lionesses in the league.

Both teams were looking for a win to help propel them into the top ten. The first half was one that was full of chances but both sides struggled to put that finishing touch and make them count. Millwall had the better first ’45 of the two teams but with some stout defending the U’s were able to hold on and as we reached half time it was all square in Rotherhithe as the teams headed into the break at 0-0.

The second half kicked off and within five minutes we conceded a penalty, which Millwall dispatched and now the hosts hold the lead, 1-0 Millwall.

Just fifteen minutes later Millwall doubled their lead with a free kick from outside the area which floated past Mya Francis in goal and it was now 2-0 to the hosts and a comeback looked tough.

But then it all changed as Sutton are awarded a penalty just moments after the hosts had doubled their lead. Eden Clark stepped up and smashed it top corner to put us back in the game. Millwall 2, Sutton 1.

As the clocked ticked down to the final whistle it seemed as thought the hosts had done it but with six minutes left to play Millie Cutler regained position at the edge of the area and rolled one past the Millwall No.1 and levelled the scores.

The game ends Millwall 2 – 2 Sutton.

After the game Manager Lucy Clark said;

“We didn’t crumble, we rolled up our sleeves and got what I thought was a well earned draw at the end of the game”.
