Last season’s visit to Sixfields in early October provided U’s with a first EFL away win, Joe Kizzi and Donovan Wilson scoring either side of half time for a 2-0 success, while the game in January at the VBS ended goalless with Craig Eastmond sent off, a decision that was subsequently rescinded.
Having lost in the play-offs last season to Mansfield, Northampton were among the pre-season favourites to mount a promotion challenge, and have done little so far this season to suggest anything to the contrary, although Saturday’s fine success which ended Stevenage’s 100% home record did come after a run of three games without a win. At home they have won five of their seven games, being beaten by Doncaster and Salford but picking up maximum points against Barrow, Colchester, Hartlepool, Rochdale and Stockport.
Northampton boast the division’s leading scorer in Sam Hoskins, but he is an injury doubt for Tuesday and fellow striker Danny Hylton was sent off at the Lamex Stadium.
Sutton will assess skipper Craig Eastmond before the game after his facial injury on Saturday while striker Omar Bugiel is set to follow Rob Milsom to the 150 appearance mark.
Referee Ross Joyce is in his eighth season as an EFL official and has taken charge of one Sutton game before, the 1-1 draw at Scunthorpe early last season.
