Manager Paul Doswell was at the Knights Community Stadium to watch the Surrey Senior Cup win against Sutton Common, and before that to learn U’s fate in the first round FA Cup draw. After U’s had come out at home to Slough Town, he gave his reaction. ”Obviously you’re always after a home draw, and it will be an interesting game. I know their manager Neil Baker very well, and he did very well at Godalming and has repeated that success at Slough. They’re very similar in standard to Wealdstone, and you know that anyone in the top half of the National League South will give you a very competitive game. I know it’s a cliche but we won’t take anything for granted, Slough will be well-organised and competitive, and it should be a good game.”
Paul then stayed to watch the Surrey Senior Cup tie and was impressed with what he saw from both sides. ”I was very impressed with Darren’s Sutton Common team, they were probably better than I expected, and I told their players that if they carry on like that this season they should do very well. From our point of view it gave some players 90 minute run-outs when they haven’t necessarily had it consistently recently, and it was great to see Brandon McCarthy come on and score a fantastic goal after a good move. Marvin’s got several players there who are more than useful, and I thought Chuck Okolo and Brad Pearce both had excellent games at the back. I was also delighted with the professional way that the senior players went about the game, and all in all it was a very good evening with a good crowd.”
