Striker Tommy Wright has rejected the offer of a new contract with Sutton United, and is therefore free to talk to other clubs. Tommy joined us from local Hampshire football at the start of the 2015-16 season, making 15 league appearances in the National League South championship campaign. The following season he scored over 50 goals on loan at Salisbury, and on his return was a frequent scorer for us at National League level, earning recognition for England C, before a serious knee injury suffered at Leyton Orient ended his 2018-19 season at the end of September.
He returned to action at the start of the 2019-20 season, scoring his first goal of the season at Boreham Wood (above), and had eight league and cup goals to his credit in the season before taking a break for personal reasons in February. In all he made 134 appearances and scored 35 goals. Club chairman Bruce Elliott said: ”We were keen to keep Tommy, as he has been excellent for us, scoring vital goals, and was popular with the supporters, but we respect his decision and wish him well for the future.”
As Tommy is under 24 we are entitled to compensation from any club that he joins, which is agreed between the clubs or, if no agreement can be reached, decided by an independent tribunal.
