The attacking right back was a prominent member of the academy team in a successful first season in the EFL Youth Alliance and featured in the FA Youth Cup run to the third round where U’s lost on penalties to Championship side Preston. He follows Kylian Kouassi in making the step up to the first team squad.

Manager Matt Gray said: ”Roman has really impressed me over the past season. He’s got real athleticism, he’s good going forward and he’s got huge potential for us to work with, so we look forward to working with him day in, day out, and bringing him in to the first team fold. Once again it highlights the good work of the academy after producing Kylian, who progressed so well last season.”

Academy manager Marvin Williams feels it’s a well deserved reward for Roman, who he says ”has been fantastic since joining the Academy, and we are all thrilled that he has been rewarded with a professional contract.”

Roman (below, in action) says: ”I’m really delighted to be signing my first professional contract and can’t wait to get started on the season and tackle every challenge that comes. I’ve developed from where I was before and I’ve had great coaching from Rick, Ross, Marvin and all the coaching staff in the Academy which helped me to get to where I am now.”
