Sutton’s women shook off the disappointment of last week’s FA Cup exit by cruising through to the third round of the London & South East Regional League Cup, putting nine goals past Steyning without reply.

Sutton having originally been drawn at home, the tie was switched to Steyning’s 3G pitch at Shooting Field, and U’s were away to a fine start when Chloe Francis scored direct from a free kick for the second week running, this one from further out than last week’s effort against Maidenhead. Eleven minutes before half time Kaydence Kabadaki added a second, and just before the break Darcy Wells converted a penalty to send Sutton in at the interval three up.

Sutton pressed home the advantage at the beginning of the second half, Kabadaki scoring again immediately after the restart and then four goals coming in quick succession as Khyri McKenzie and Emma Spear made it 6-0, Abbie Measures put her name on the scoresheet with a long range effort and Wells scored her second of the game with a low shot from the right edge of the penalty area. Before the end Spear had also doubled her tally to round off a comprehensive victory and earn an away third round tie against Millwall Lionesses on Sunday 7 January.

Team: M Humphries, S Modak, E Meehan, F Colepio, K McIntyre, A Measures, E Spear, J Backhurst, K Kabadaki, D Wells, C Francis. Subs Z McNulty, T Hooper, N Hurst, A Tyrer, K McKenzie.
