In the end the outcome was as expected, and an FA Cup quarter-final between two non-league clubs will not happen, but Sutton’s performance in front of the BBC cameras was one that earned them great credit in defeat.
Although once Theo Walcott had scored Arsenal’s second goal early in the second half it was most unlikely that U’s would halt the Premier League side’s progress, they kept snapping in to tackles and had three opportunities in the ten minutes after Walcott’s goal to cause Arsenal some anxiety, and never allowed their opponents to establish a more commanding lead.
