In a first half of few chances at Oxford City’s Court Place Farm ground,  Liam Moore had Sutton’s best effort with a dipping shot which went just over the bar, but three minutes before half time Oxford centre back Aaron Lacey met a corner with a firm header past Lenny Jones to give Oxford the lead.

The advantage was doubled on the hour when Leo Snowden’s shot was parried by Jones in to the path of Aidan Elliott-Wheeler who scored easily.

Substitute Camron Grant came close to pulling a goal back with a shot which was saved at the second attempt by the Oxford goalkeeper, but Sutton were unable to make any impression on the home goal and it was the home U’s who went through to the next round as Sutton’s youngsters suffered a first defeat in nine games.
