Sutton and Aylesford were level on points in the London & South East Regional League going in to this game and remained level after it following a goalless draw at Cobham. There were few clear chances in an even first half, Abbie Measures blocking one shot when Aylesford attacked, and Milly Cutler having Sutton’s best opening just before half time when she went through on the right but her shot lacked the power to beat the Aylesford goalkeeper.

The second half was a far more open affair with Sutton increasingly on top but unable to find the breakthrough. Cutler saw a header well saved low to the goalkeeper’s left, and Aylesford cleared several goalmouth scrambles. The last five minutes came close to providing a winner for both sides, with Caitlin Savage shooting over from a good position, and Mia South’s free kick lifted across goal by Justine Buckmire, who saw the ball bounce along the top of the crossbar with Cutler waiting in vain underneath for the ball to drop. Aylesford were able to clear, and almost grabbed a winner themselves when Marni Humphries made a fine save to her right to push away a long range shot. Still Sutton had one last chance, with Buckmire putting Cutler in on the right and her shot, which proved to be the last kick of the game, flashing agonisingly wide of the far post.
