Sutton went down to a 2-0 defeat against London & South East Regional League leaders Dartford this afternoon but produced another encouraging performance against a side beaten just once in the league this season who had won the earlier meeting this season 7-1 at Princes Park.

Dartford went in front after just three minutes when a visiting striker reached a through ball before Zoe McNulty, who had come outside her area, and crossed for a team mate to lift the ball in the the vacant net. Sutton regrouped, though, and after McNulty had made a good save in a one-on-one situation U’s might have levelled just before half time with a dipping long range shot that was tipped over the bar.

The second half started, as the first had, with a Dartford goal when a cross from the right following a corner wasn’t cleared and a shot on the turn found the net from about nine yards. Again the visitors were unable to build on their lead as Sutton matched them for long periods of the game, and although U’s were unable to test the visiting keeper beyond a Mia South shot that went over the bar, this was still a performance to suggest that forthcoming games against the sides around Sutton in the table, beginning in a fortnight’s time when U’s play Aylesford at Cobham, will see a return to winning form.

Team: Z McNulty, S Modak, M South, M Creaser, H Talbut-Smith, C Savage, T-A Bussey, J Backhurst, L Malcolm, A Measures, H Thomas. Subs E Clark, A Cutler, A Tyrer, M Humphries.

The reserve side drew 0-0 against Croydon while the development side won 6-2 at Cranleigh with two goals each for Lily Waters and Lucy Barry, and one apiece for Imaan Saleem and Skye Bailey.
