An even game of few chances came to life in the last ten minutes when Oxford hit the bar with a header and U’s keeper Lenny Jones saved brilliantly from the follow up effort, and Sutton, who lost three players to injury during the morning, then went to the other end when after good work by Charlie Bell, a superb pass by Bobby Lambourne put Khyan Edwards in on the left of the penalty area and his low shot was diverted wide by the Oxford goalkeeper’s foot. The keeper had earlier saved long range efforts from Joden Trickett and Vinnie Tume, while Oxford’s best chances had been wasted by wild finishing. A goalless draw looked to be on the cards, an outcome few could have complained at, but in stoppage time Oxford were awarded a free kick on their right close to the halfway line, and a deep free kick found a striker outjumping Jones to head in to the unguarded net.
