Despite going a goal down, and then playing much of the second half with ten men after Aswad Thomas had been sent off, Sutton picked up a fine win against pre-season championship favourites Salford City, who have one point from their first three games after successive away defeats. Carl Piergianni headed Salford in front in the 20th minute, heading in Danny Whitehead’s corner, but U’s levelled before the break through Man of the Match Craig Eastmond. Thomas saw red ten minutes after the break for kicking out at Whitehead, but eight minutes later superb work by substitute Josh Taylor set up Ross Lafayette (above) for what proved to be the winner.
