Sutton United FC and John Ruskin College – Resounding win for the local community

We are delighted to announce an exciting new partnership that has recently been formed between Sutton United and John Ruskin College (part of Orbital South Colleges group).

This brings together the best of the education and football worlds, with the well-established Sutton United Football Academy alongside the strong supportive learning environment offered within Selsdon-based John Ruskin College. It symbolises a wonderful opportunity for local students to benefit from early access to the professional world of football, in an outstanding education environment.

Students will be studying a BTEC qualification in Sport at either Level 2 or 3. The qualification is delivered alongside full-time football training and matches. This popular learning qualification provides students with a clear route to employment, whether in the focused world of football, in the wider leisure industry or beyond. Today employers, more than ever, are looking for work-ready confident individuals who have the practical knowledge and technical skills that you get from a BTEC course.

Students will also be able to benefit from enrichment, mentoring and work experience activities as part of the Academy programme. The Academy is an integral part of the football club, and therefore the wider community.

Director for Sutton United FC Academy, Marvin Williams said:

“This exciting collaboration will enhance an already strong Academy programme and prepare all students drawn from the local community for life, both within and outside the football and leisure industry”

Jayne Dickinson, Chief Executive, Orbital South Colleges commented:

“We are delighted to be working closely with Sutton United, and the opportunities that it affords the Academy students.

We are both well-known for the delivery of high quality learning and providing students with a clear pathway, providing support for them to excel in their future careers.

The values of our organisations are complementary, and we work innovatively to support local communities and young people to have access to education and a focused route in to employment”
