Sutton United Football Club is thrilled to announce that, starting August 1st, our new training ground will be located at The David Weir Leisure Centre. This move marks the return of our training facilities to the Sutton area after a two year absence at Harlington.
The relocation to The David Weir Leisure Centre represents a significant step forward for Sutton United, both on and off the pitch. Not only will this state-of-the-art facility provide our players with top-tier training amenities, but it will also foster a deeper connection between the club and the community we proudly represent.
This move is about more than just a new training ground; it’s about bringing Sutton United home. By training locally, we are ensuring that our players and staff are more accessible to our fans and the wider community. The David Weir Leisure Centre will serve as a hub for various community initiatives, including open training sessions, school outings, and family days, all designed to bring fans closer to the action.
Sutton United’s Chief Operating Officer, Tim Allison, expressed his excitement about the move: “Having our training ground in Sutton is a game-changer for us. It allows us to integrate more fully into the community and gives our fans, especially the younger generation, more opportunities to engage with the club. We’re looking forward to making The David Weir Leisure Centre our home and to welcoming our supporters so that they can be a part of this exciting new chapter.”
Councillor Christopher Woolmer, chair of the London Borough of Sutton’s Environment and Sustainable Transport Committee, said: “David Weir Leisure Centre is a fantastic facility and we are delighted that Sutton United Football Club has chosen it as their new training ground. We welcome the partnership and look forward to seeing the team train locally and the positive impact this collaboration will bring to both the team and our residents”.
The David Weir Leisure Centre offers cutting-edge facilities that will enhance the preparation and performance of our first team. With high-quality pitches, modern gym equipment, and comprehensive sports science support, the new training ground ensures that our players have the best possible environment to develop and excel. This includes a higher quality pitch being installed at the club’s new training facility.
David Weir Leisure Centre is managed by Everyone Active in partnership with Sutton London Borough Council and was named in honour of the Paralympic champion. As well as a gym and group exercise studio, the centre provides spaces for various sports including table tennis and gymnastics, as well as indoor and outdoor athletics facilities including running tracks, pole vaulting and javelin equipment.

This partnership showcases the versatility of our centre and reinforces our commitment to supporting local sports and the community. We’re proud to provide a top-tier training environment for the club while continuing to serve Sutton residents. This collaboration will undoubtedly bring exciting opportunities for both the team and the wider community.”
Head Coach Steve Morison shared his thoughts on the transition: “This move is incredibly positive for the squad. The new facilities at The David Weir Leisure Centre are of really high quality and will provide the perfect setting for us to prepare for our upcoming season.
