One of the current form sides in League Two, Crewe go in to this evening’s game in 4th place having won five of their last six games, most recently at home to Doncaster on Saturday when a stoppage time goal by Connor O’Riordan ensured a 3-2 victory. Their home form has been particularly impressive, with 23 points from a possible 30, but they have also had good away wins this season at Crawley and Forest Green, scoring four on each occasion. They also won at Harrogate and were one of several sides to feature in a high scoring game at Wrexham this season, coming away with a 3-3 draw. They have lost at Bradford and Salford.

Last season Crewe were the visitors for the game which marked Sutton’s 125th anniversary, with Coby Rowe’s injury time goal earning U’s a point on a day when supporters of both sides could have been forgiven for being confused, with U’s in a red and white kit more often associated with the visitors, who nevertheless will again be in their second strip of teal and navy this evening.

Sutton will wait on the fitness of goalkeeper Dean Bouzanis and centre back Ben Goodliffe, who both came off injured in Saturday’s draw at Grimsby, with the goalkeeping situation further clouded by a finger injury sustained by Jack Rose in training last week. Dominic Gape, who missed Saturday’s game after a injury at Charlton last Tuesday, could be fit to return to the squad. U’s are now unbeaten in four League Two games and could climb off the foot of the table with a victory, coupled with a Bradford win at Forest Green.

Tonight’s referee is John Busby, who is in his 8th EFL season and his third as a Select Group 2 official, refereeing in the Championship. He was in charge of Bristol City’s victory over Middlesbrough on Saturday and last visited Sutton in January 2022 for the goalless draw against Northampton, although his first Sutton match was in the FA Cup at Lewes back in 2007.
