Sutton face a tough task against a Swindon side who are unbeaten after their first five games, having seen their game at Colchester on the opening day postponed, and are the joint leading scorers with Wrexham with whom they shared a 5-5 draw last month. A week later they put six past Crawley, managed by former Swindon boss Scott Lindsey, with striker Jake Brown, on loan from Bradford City, scoring four to put him alongside Newport’s Will Evans at the top of the League Two scoring charts. That may have made last week’s goalless draw at bottom of the table Doncaster, who played the second half with ten men, slightly disappointing. As last season, when he scored at Sutton before late goals from Lee Angol and Ali Smith forced U’s only win over the Wiltshire side, Sutton will also need to keep an eye on experienced striker Charlie Austin, while another of manager Michael Flynn’s summer signings who U’s will be familiar with is midfielder Dan Kemp, outstanding for Hartlepool when the sides met in February.
Sutton need to end a run of five successive defeats, and in doing so would pick up points at the County Ground for the first time, having lost last season 3-2 to Jacob Wakeling’s stoppage time header, and 2-1 the previous season. Manager Matt Gray has no new injuries to report, with Sam Hart and captain Craig Eastmond close to a return after their injury lay offs.
For the third Saturday in a row the referee will be an official in his first season on the EFL List, with Ben Atkinson taking charge of a Sutton match for the first time. He refereed last season’s National League South play-off final.
