Steve Morison has provided a squad update ahead of tomorrow’s trip to Maidenhead United, including updates on long-term absentees Steve Arnold and Jayden Harris.
Arnold had warmed up on Saturday ahead of the Isuzu FA Trophy Quarter-Final against Spennymoor Town for the first time since November, and ended a four-month absence from the matchday squad when he was named on the bench on Tuesday against Solihull Moors. Morison confirmed that he is ‘fine’, and his inclusion in the squad once again ‘breeds confidence’, with Jack Sims receiving more pressure to perform as a result.
As for Harris, the former Carlisle United midfielder has been missing since going down with a torn achilles at the start of November away at Rochdale, but Morison confirmed that he could return before the end of the season.
“He’s doing great” said the Head Coach. “He’s first in every day, doing his work on his own. He’s now walking, he’s getting there slowly and he’s still on track to to be back by the end of the season which would be great”
As for rest of the squad, Morison has an almost full squad to choose from going into the U’s second away match of the week, with no new injury concerns to report aside from Alex Kirk, was the only notable absence on Tuesday. The defender has trained this week though and could be back available for selection tomorrow.
“Everyone came through [the Solihull match] fine, which is always a positive” Morison stated. “We’ve had a full training group so I look forward to another tough decision on the selection front”
Commenting on Kirk, Morison also added “he is not far away, Tuesday was just slightly too soon. He trained fine yesterday and he’ll train again today so hopefully he’ll be in contention”
