With the first team now back in pre-season on the pitch, the club is also continuing to move forward and re-shape off the pitch. Following on from the appointment of Pat Carr to the board of directors, the club is delighted to announce its new finance team with Robert Oakes appointed Treasurer and Jenny Graham as Match Day/Assistant Treasurer. Rob is a qualified accountant and has an experienced footballing finance background that spans nearly fifteen years, having been Treasurer of his former club Epsom & Ewell FC for seven years and Treasurer of the Southern Youth League for the past six years – a post that he continues to hold. He steps into the role of Treasurer following holding the role of Assistant Treasurer under the club’s previous Treasurer Mike Bidmead for the past two seasons, which has seen him manage to computerise the accounting system processes over this time and bring this aspect of the club into the 21st century. Jenny is well known to many at Sutton United, having first been a volunteer over 30 years ago in “Rose’s Tea Hut”, while most supporters are more familiar with Jenny in her role as a match-day programme seller at Gander Green Lane over the last 15 years. Jenny has been Season-Ticket/Membership Secretary since 2009 and assisted with various match-day duties. She assumed full Match-Day Treasurer duties midway through last season due to the sad deterioration in health of Mike Bidmead. Chairman Bruce Elliott would like to thank Jenny for standing in last season and has asked her to take on this role on a permanent basis. Over the years Sutton United has run primarily as a traditional football club from a financial viewpoint, with a relatively small number of transactions taking place each month; but now with the 3G pitch receiving rave reviews and community aspects mixed in with promotion to the highest tier of non-league football in England, the club is now seeing a vast increase in transactions from a commercial viewpoint and also from the successful initiatives that the club have been running such as Strikers Are Key, Boost The Budget and the season-ticket offers, which means that the finance role is having to expand into a finance team.
