Sutton have been drawn away to Airdrieonians in the second round of the Irn-Bru Cup over the weekend of 8/9 September. A relatively new club formed in 2002 as Airdrie United after the original Airdrieonians went out of business, they took the name of the original club in 2013 and play in the original club’s colours of white with a red diamond, hence the nickname the Diamonds.
Situated about twelve miles east of Glasgow, Airdrie currently play in League One of the Ladbrokes Scottish League, the third of four tiers in the professional Scottish game, and have won one and lost one of their two league games so far. They won 3-0 at Berwick Rangers in the first round.
More details of the tie will follow when known.
