Matt Gray has made his second addition to the Sutton squad this summer, capturing the signature of 25-year-old striker Omar Bugiel following his departure from Bromley.
Born in Germany, he was a youth player with 1860 Munich before moving to England, where he played for several Sussex clubs before joining Worthing in January 2014. Omar impressed in both games for Worthing against us in the FA Trophy in January 2017, scoring the opening goal (below) in the 2-2 draw at Woodside Road, and averaged better than a goal every three games in around 150 appearances for them. His form that season had a number of clubs chasing his services but he joined Forest Green Rovers the following month and his five goals played a part in the Gloucestershire club securing promotion into the Football League.
In January 2018 the 6’1" striker joined Bromley on loan and scored for them in the FA Trophy Final at Wembley before signing on a permanent basis for the Kent club at the start of the 2018/19 season, finishing his Hayes Lane spell with ten goals in 48 National League games.
Eligible through his father to play for Lebanon, he has been capped five times and scored one goal.
Matt said: ”I’ve known about Omar for a few years, and watched him a lot when he was at Worthing and I was at Millwall. He fully earned his move to Forest Green that season, and has proved himself a goalscorer at this level with them and Bromley. He’s 25 and just the kind of keen and hungry player I’m looking for, and I look forward to seeing him score goals in our colours next season.”
