The home side went ahead after quarter of an hour when U’s were caught out by a ball over the top, and the home striker finished well, but Sutton levelled just before half time when Jaz Backhurst ran on to a superb crossfield pass from Amber Hendra and lifted a well judged lob over the home keeper. U’s were in front within two minutes of the start of the second half when Alanah Clarke-Salter bundled the ball in following a corner, and despite a late flurry from Welling which needed two good defensive blocks in the last minute U’s held on for victory.

The first round draw is on Monday and will see the 85 teams who have won today joined by the 27 from the FA Women’s National League Premier Division.

To complete a good day for the women’s teams, the Under 23s beat Enfield 5-2 at Banstead and the Under 21s had a resounding 7-0 win away to South East Parakeets.
