Sutton’s women’s team ended a run of six league and cup defeats this afternoon with a 1-1 draw away to Millwall Lionesses.

For a moment near the end it seemed as though U’s might be on for all three points as, after 80 minutes which had failed to produce a goal, Jaz Backhurst scored for the second game running to put Sutton in front, but it was a short-lived lead as Millwall levelled with six minutes to go to share the points with Sutton for the second time this season, the game at the VBS at the start of the season ending 2-2.

Team: Z McNulty, S Modak, H Talbut-Smith, M South, J Buckmire, C Savage, T Bussey, J Backhurst, L Malcolm, A Measures, H Thomas. Subs M Humphries, M Frances-Creaser, A Cutler, A Tyrer, E Spear.

There is no first team game next Sunday, and in a fortnight’s time they return to the VBS for a home game against Dartford.

Meanwhile the development side went on a goal spree against Guildford Saints, winning 11-1 with hat tricks from Lily Waters and Holly Westrop. Maisie Clark scored twice and there was a goal apiece for Bonnie Quintaine, Emma Parker and Ellie Fairlamb. Next week they are at home again, to Oxted & District, and the venue and kick off time will be confirmed later in the week. The reserves will be away to Richmond Park Development at King George’s Field, Ham, kick off 2pm.
