Sutton’s women’s team lost 3-0 at Dulwich this afternoon as the hosts kept the pressure on London & South East Regional League leaders Dartford, but there was joy for our Under 13 side who won the Surrey FA Under 13s County Cup.
All the goals at Dulwich came in a twenty minute spell towards the end of the first half, the first having more than a suspicion of offside, while the second was a looping header from a corner that dropped just inside the post and the third a terrific shot from thirty yards out that flew past the helpless Marni Humphries.
Sutton created opportunities without being able to take them, but in the second half U’s, missing several regular first teamers, battled well to prevent Dulwich adding to their score, although there was one long range shot that clipped the crossbar and Humphries made two excellent saves. The win moved Dulwich to within three points of Dartford, who lost today to Saltdean, with a game in hand and a better goal difference while U’s are now four points clear of the relegation zone.
Team: M Humphries, S Modak, M South, J Buckmire, H Talbut-Smith, C Savage, M Creaser, E Spear, M Cutler, H Thomas, E Clark. Subs Z McNulty, C Pryke, T-A Bussey, A Henry, A Measures.
On Wednesday we have a game at the VBS against Dorking Wanderers, kick off 7.45pm, having beaten them 2-1 at Meadowbank earlier in the season.
The reserves lost 5-0 at home to league leaders Epsom & Ewell in the Surrey Premier Division of the South East Counties League, but the development side atoned for last week’s defeat to Guildford City by beating the same opposition 6-1 at Horsley. Bonnie Quaintance scored a hat trick and there was a goal apiece for Lucy Barry, Lily Waters and Imaan Saleem. Neither team has a game over Easter weekend.
Finally, congratulations to our Under 13 girls who beat Beecholme Belles 5-0 at Dorking to win the Surrey County Cup for their age group.
