Our women’s team came out victorious in a three team tournament at Flamingo Park, the new home of Cray Wanderers FC, on Sunday afternoon. The hosts and Sutton were joined by Renselleur Polytechnic Institute from New York for the event, which was played for the Sponsors’ Cup.

The first of the three games, which were thirty minutes each way, saw RPI beat Cray 4-1, before we took on the American side and won 3-2 with two goals from Caitlin Savage and one from Emma Spear, who had also been on target in the 4-2 defeat at Bromley on Thursday.

That left U’s needing a point from the last game against Cray, and with the home side 3-2 ahead at half time it looked as though all three sides might finish level on points. But a stirring second half showing saw U’s come back to win 6-3 and finish on top of the group to win the trophy. Caitlin Savage continued her fine afternoon’s work with two more goals, Milly Cutler also scored twice and there was a goal apiece for Jaz Backhurst and K’Sheala Burch-Waldron.

Our women’s team have three more friendlies, against QPR at Hayes & Yeading FC on Tuesday evening and then away to AFC Stoneham on Sunday and Ascot United the following Sunday before the London & South East Regional League kicks off on Sunday 18 August with a home game against Newhaven at our regular home for the 2024-25 season, Chipstead FC.
