The leadership of the Vanarama National League has been something of a poisoned chalice for several clubs this season, and Sutton will be hoping to buck the trend this Saturday, visiting Wrexham in what has valid claims as the division’s match of the day. It promises to be a tall order, though, against a Wrexham side currently in fifth place and unbeaten in their last seven games. They have been beaten once at the Racecourse Ground, Macclesfield winning by the only goal, while their twelve league games so far have seen a total of just sixteen goals scored and conceded. Last season the two games both ended 1-0 in favour of the home side, Sutton unlucky to lose in the corresponding fixture at Wrexham but then winning courtesy of an early own goal in the return just before Christmas.
Both sides will be missing players through suspension tomorrow, Craig Eastmond having picked up his fifth booking of the season last Saturday and Wrexham midfielder Sam Wedgbury sent off in their 1-0 win at Tranmere.
Travel and ticket details for the game are here. For those not able to make the trip to Wrexham we will have commentary on our usual mixlr channel, while Sutton Common Rovers have a home Combined Counties League game against unbeaten league leaders Westfield.
Meanwhile congratulations to defender Louis John, who has been called up to the England C Training Camp, which will be held at Lilleshall between Sunday 8th and Tuesday 10th October. Louis, who has been in impressive form at centre back this season, appeared for England C against Slovakia at Sutton in June 2016, scoring twice.
One other piece of news is that Bradley Hudson-Odoi’s loan at Hampton & Richmond has been extended to November 25th as he continues his recovery from an Achilles injury.
